Nicholas Groves-Raines

Nicholas Groves-Raines is Managing Director of Groves-Raines Architects Ltd. He has over thirty years experience in a wide variety of conservation and development projects and he is Conservation Accredited at Level A by the RIAS. He specialises in the sensitive and constructive re-use of historic and listed buildings, using a variety of skills to provide for an individual approach to each project. His technique is very much of the present whilst respecting our architectural heritage and preserving it for the future. He won an RIBA award for his work on the A-listed St Andrews in the Square church in Glasgow, a Europa Nostra Silver Medal for his work on Babbity Bowsters in Glasgow, The Scottish Castles Association Award for the restoration of Fenton Tower in East Lothian and the 2007 Georgian Group Architectural Award for the best Restoration of a Georgian Country House for Belmont House on Unst in Shetland. He has also been the recipient of many other awards, including several Civic Trust Awards, and has recently been responsible for the conservation work at Hays Dock in Shetland, a part of the new Shetland Museum and Archives. Current ongoing projects include a variety of historic churches, private homes, castles and stately homes throughout the UK, Eire and Europe, as well as several prestigious new build projects in period style.
